Samoa Head of State Suspends Opening of Parliament

His Highness Head of State of Samoa Tuimalealiifano Va’aletoa Sualauvi II, has suspended his proclamation made on Friday 21st May for the opening of the 17th Parliament that was set for Monday 24th May.

The reasons given for the suspension were not made known. In the proclamation that was was released on the government of Samoa Facebook page one hour ago, he says he would give the reasons for the suspension “in due course”.

After more than six weeks since the April 9 General Election, the new parliament looked set to convene. Many people have taken to social media to express their frustration and disappointment in the latest development.
