Kingdom of Tonga and Tuvalu Receive Millions in Grants from Asian Development Bank for COVID-19 Vaccine Rollout

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) alongside the governments of the Kingdom of Tonga and Tuvalu signed separate grant agreements to support the rollout of safe and effective vaccines against COVID-19.

Tonga will receive a $5.5 million grant and $1.5 million for Tuvalu. ADB Director General for the Pacific Leah Gutierrez says, “these grants will help fund implementation of the national COVID-19 vaccine deployment plans in Tonga and Tuvalu. Effective implementation of these plans will be critical to enabling the gradual reopening of borders and the revival of these economies.”

ADB is working with Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu on the preparation of vaccine rollout plans to ensure fair and equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines.

ADB is dedicated to the development of Asia and the Pacific since 1966, owned by 68 members with 49 from the region.
