Fully Vaccinated Aucklanders can Leave City from December 15

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has announced today that Aucklanders who have been fully vaccinated or have a negative test 72 hours prior to departure will be able to leave the city and visit family and friends in other parts of the country from 15th December.

Aucklanders will be able to travel for any reason. The requirement to be tested or vaccinated before departure will be in place for the core summer period from 15th December to 17th January. Those who break these rules will face a fine of one thousand dollars. The Prime Minister says this is part of moving into the next phase of the fight against the Delta variant of COVID-19.

On November 29 Cabinet will confirm the move of Auckland to the new Traffic Light System and Auckland will initially move into Red, the highest level in that system, at the same time it is expected the rest of the country will move to Red also.

Minister for COVID-19 Response Chris Hipkins announced earlier today fully vaccinated Kiwis can now apply for the My Vaccine Pass.

The My Vaccine Pass is an official record of a person’s COVID-19 vaccination status and will provide access to places within New Zealand that require proof of vaccination under the new COVID-19 Protection Framework.
