Te Vaiaso o te Gana Tuvalu Part of 12 Year Anniversary Celebrating Pacific Languages in New Zealand

Te Vaiaso o te Gana Tuvalu 2021 Tuvalu Language Week celebration kicks off online today. This year’s theme is, Fakaakoigina tou iloga kae tukeli ke magoi mote ataeao, Embracing our culture and a more secure vibrant future. Members of the Tuvalu community gathered to offer praise and song for the opening of the week long celebrations.

According to the 2018 census there are approximately 4,653 people who identify as being from Tuvalu living in Aotearoa New Zealand. Tuvalu is made up of nine inhabited islands with a population of approximately 11,000. It is the fourth-smallest nation in the world.

Minister for Pacific Peoples Aupito William Sio encouraged the Tuvalu community to ensure they get vaccinated as the world continues to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic.
